The deputy to the Assembly of the Republic of the PSD Cristóvão Norte questioned the Government on whether measures are being taken to allow the ambulance boat Ria Solidária to return to the service of the populations of the barrier islands of Ria Formosa. According to the Algarve parliamentarian "the equipment in question has not been operating since January 2011, although it has all the conditions for this".

At issue will be "multiple vicissitudes, including the extinction of the owner of the vessel", the Civil Government of Faro. “Last April, the vessel was formally transferred to the National Civil Protection Authority. It is therefore important to overcome inertia and promote a protocol of collaboration that involves the INEM and the District Relief Operations Command of Faro», he said.

According to Cristóvão Norte, the Maritime Authority will have already made itself available to "insure the crew, at no additional cost to the public purse for the provision of this service", so that "decisions must be taken that allow the vessel to be quickly employed in the task it was assigned to committed'.

“Right now, support to these populations is being done using a rescue boat from the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos, equipment that in the winter period does not have conditions of comfort, dignity and minimally adequate primary medical care. Those populations deserve more and it is elementary justice that they will get it», he said.

In addition to asking for clarification on the measures being taken to resolve the situation, Cristóvão Norte wants to know "when it is estimated that the vessel will resume the relief operations for which it is destined".
