PS/Algarve asked the Government to “urgently” solve the problem of the interruption of works on the EN125 and demanded the extension of the period of toll exemptions on the A22 for residents while those works are not completed.

“Something has to be done to restart the works on the EN125 and specific measures have to be taken at the tolls of Via do Infante, reducing the cost and increasing the period of exemptions for the Algarve and residents in the Algarve”, said the president of the PS/ Algarve António Eusébio.

The socialist defended a reassessment of the conditions of the works on the Algarve Litoral (EN125), which had been stopped since the first quarter of 2012, following the announcement of 'lay-off' by the consortium of which Tecnovia is a part, a process that, according to the company, will cover 330 workers.

“Now it is clear that the works will not progress and this is an increased situation that must be urgently re-evaluated by the Government. We can no longer wait and pretend that nothing happens,” he said.

António Eusébio expressed concern about the effects of an overcrowded EN125 and a Via do Infante “with expensive tolls” on the region's economic fabric, which is likely to deteriorate further after the summer months.
