The recent proposal for the delimitation of the municipalities of Faro and Loulé approved last Friday at the Municipal Assembly in the two councils, is leading to an exchange of accusations between the councils of the PSD and the PS of Faro.

The Social Democrats, in a statement, criticized the "regrettable conduct" during the process of the Farenses socialists.

The PSD says that “the socialists, who had initially committed themselves to the solution proposed by the PSD, and who at no time presented any idea or change, changed their position at the last minute, without any reason for doing so, with the aim of postponing to never solving the problem and preventing the PSD from fulfilling a centuries-old aspiration of the Farenses».

For Social Democrats, the objective would be "to obtain electoral dividends at the expense of a promise that would thus not be fulfilled."

In the communiqué, signed by Cristóvão Norte, leader of the Farense social-democrat council, it is also stated that «the PS was never against the proposal, it was always against the fact that it was a proposal that was not its authorship, intentionally ignoring the needs and interests of the populations affected for more than a hundred years by the lack of territorial definition”.

However, the PSD's communiqué did not go unanswered by the PS. The socialists emphasize that «who defines the sense of responsibility and political orientation of the PS are the socialists and not the PSD or Eng. Macário Correia» and explain, on the proposal to delimit the council, that «the Socialist Party of Faro is, has always been, in favor of resolving the undefined zone of the councils of Faro and Loulé, namely in the areas of Mata Lobos and Arneiro, but believes that a solution to this issue cannot create another problem in Montenegro, which is why, in the last fifteen days, we have insisted that this point was not hastily scheduled».

The Socialists claim that the “proposal presented by the Chamber implies the delivery to the Municipality of Loulé of 200 hectares of the territory of Montenegro, which was never considered an undefined zone” and that “this proposal was unanimously rejected by the Parish Assembly of Montenegro, where the right-wing coalition has a majority, which is why it is neither possible nor lawful to make this a partisan issue».

The Socialist Party understands “that in terms of the limits of parishes and councils, they must be treated in a consensual manner. There being a local authority that unanimously rejected the proposal, the City Council should have withdrawn the point of the Municipal Assembly to hear the arguments of the Parish and the populations of Montenegro and illuminate the gray areas of its proposal».

For the PS, the executive made up of the PSD/CDS-PP coalition, by not withdrawing the point from the Municipal Assembly last Friday, as proposed by the PS, BE and PCP, «despised the parish and the populations of Montenegro and it disrespected the democratic primacy of the conciliation of positions, wanting, as is unfortunately usual, to impose its will by force».
