After 200 years, the municipalities of Loulé and Faro are very close to having defined territorial limits. Last Friday, the Municipal Assemblies of the two councils approved a proposal for territorial delimitation, which was the culmination of a process that involved 12 administrative acts and which is now ready for approval by the Assembly of the Republic.
In a joint statement, the two municipalities recall that the situation of uncertainty has brought "innumerable difficulties for the approximately 850 people who live there."
According to the Municipal Councils, there are, in the "indefinite zone", "rustic and urban buildings registered in any registry office and without discretion, citizens with electoral registration exchanged for confusion in the allocation of postal codes, companies in litigation in the construction of buildings due to indefiniteness of who licenses, difficulty in sharing and inheritance, difficulty in delimiting the area of competence and management of court and police cases, the same household has different documentation, complications in postal distribution, or companies with poorly allocated tax offices due to the registration of urban articles where they are installed'.
Therefore, the statement emphasizes that this "was a situation that could not continue" and that the intervention of the Municipal Councils of Loulé and Faro it ends here, after more than two years of work, which began with the constitution of a Technical Committee that studied all the available documentation.
The report produced was presented to all the bodies of the parishes and municipalities, which analyzed it and pronounced themselves, according to the chambers, “mostly in favour”. The population was also heard in the process.
For the consensus between Loulé and Faro have practical effects, the matter is only scheduled in the Assembly of the Republic.
