Pedro Castelo Xavier was re-elected this Thursday as president of the PSD/Portimão Political Committee, thus defeating the other candidate, Helder Renato Rodrigues.

Pedro Xavier's List A won both in the Political Commission and in the Board of the Section Plenary Assembly, where, curiously, there was a single list, headed by physician João Amado, and supported by the leaders of both lists.

Thus, for the Board, João Amado's list received three null votes, 32 blanks and 193 votes in favour.

In the case of the Political Commission, there were four white votes, 93 (32,06%) in the List B by Helder Renato, and 131 (45,17%) in List A, by Pedro Xavier. 290 militants could vote, with their quotas up to date, so they exercised their right 78,62%.

This high participation value motivated the first comment by the re-elected president of the Portimonenses Social Democrats. In declarations to the Sul Informação, Pedro Xavier said that such results show "that the party mobilized for these elections and that it chose a line of continuity in relation to the work done in the last two years."

Pedro Xavier added that the priority now is the Local Elections for next year, in which the current president of the Portimão Chamber, the socialist Manuel da Luz, cannot re-apply, having reached the maximum limit of consecutive terms.

This is seen as an opportunity by the social democrats, to finally try to conquer an autarchy that since the first elections has been governed by the PS.

Pedro Xavier guaranteed that the PSD candidate (or candidate) for the Portimão Chamber "is not yet chosen", but recalled that, according to the party's directives, "the choice of local candidates must be made by December."

However, the re-elected president of the PSD/Portimão Council stressed that it is still necessary to wait for a "clarification" of the new law on municipalities, which "is currently in the hands of minister Miguel Relvas", to know which bodies will be needed compete and in what ways.

But does the PSD/Portimão, again under the command of Pedro Xavier, already have a candidate in mind? The social-democratic leader from Portimo answers: "the PSD has a group of very valid people, who, in the last 38 years, have represented the party in all local authorities and beyond", so it has a lot of "to choose from" .

And Pedro Xavier could be the candidate? "At the moment I'm not," he assured.

Despite the attempts, the Sul Informação he was unable to speak with Helder Renato Rodrigues. However, on his Facebook wall, the defeated candidate has already congratulated his opponent, who he considered "deserved winner of the internal elections of PSD Portimão". “By the number of participating militants, it was the PSD who won!” he added.
