The first lady Maria Cavaco Silva presided this Tuesday at the official inauguration of the new premises of Existir-Association for the Intervention of Disabled and Disadvantaged Populations, headquartered in Loulé.

Almost five years after the beginning of the adaptation works, Existir has finished the adaptation works of its entire building.

According to the president of Existir, “all the comfort conditions are now in place to respond to the approximately 80 users we have, both at CAOL and at URPE, two of the institution's areas linked to rehabilitation, and at Banco Solidário. In that case, the number exceeds 400 households.”

All the adaptation works were in charge of Existir, with Social Security having contributed about a third of the 500 thousand euros necessary for the entire intervention.

The rest of the money was provided by the local community and foreign communities installed in the region, namely the English one, as well as funds from the institution itself, which with laundry, catering, take-away, restoration service, among others, covers the costs and generates revenue.

The ceremony also had the blessing and prayer of Father Varela, from the parish of Loulé, who highlighted the importance of the presence of Existir and all other institutions in the fight against poverty and inequality.

Maria Cavaco Silva, for her part, stressed that “these associations are a fundamental support of society”.
