The Fuseta multipurpose room, in the Parish Council, hosts, from tomorrow, August 22nd, until September 30th, a photographic exhibition depicting the maritime procession of the Feasts in Honor of Nossa Senhora do Carmo and Nossa Senhora do Livramento, seen through the eyes of ALFA photographers (Free Association of Algarve Photographers).

The main festivals in the parish of Fuseta (Olhão) are a religious manifestation where recreational activities and musical entertainment play an important role and date back to the ancient times when the parish was part of the municipality of Tavira.

The religious and profane feast of the patron saint of the parish, Nossa Senhora do Carmo, is the result of the great devotion of fishermen to the Virgin, since the times when they went to work codfish, to the seas of Newfoundland and Greenland.

The Pilgrimage of Our Lady of Livramento had three phases. The first took place between March and April, and was still present at the Festa de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, with the arrival of the image of Nossa Senhora do Livramento by land, on foot, in a pilgrimage to the chapel.

The second phase was celebrated in the months of September and October, with the Farewell Pilgrimage, when they went to the seas of Newfoundland. The pilgrims went on foot or by mule car to pray to the chapel, having a picnic, after prayers.

The Pilgrimage of Arrival and Thanks to Senhora do Livramento is the third phase of the party and includes  cold folk, where joy is always present. The arrival and departure of the image of Nossa Senhora do Livramento for the feasts of the patron saint of the Parish of Fuseta is done by sea, in a procession in which all decorated boats participate.

The photographers Ana González, Ana Luísa Gonçalves, Carla Matos, Dora Martins, Manuel Coelho, Mauro Rodrigues and Vitor Azevedo participate in this exhibition, which aims to document the traditions of the fishing community of Fuseta.
