The Senior Tours 2012, promoted by the City Council of São Brás de Alportel, invite all young people over 60 to join a different day and discover the wonders of the Costa Vicentina.
This initiative aims to provide seniors with a different trip to visit new places, but also to meet friends and share emotions throughout a day specially created thinking about the hundreds of elderly people who live in the municipality of São Brasense.
In this year's edition, Senior Walks take participants to discover the wonders of the Costa Vicentina on a refreshing tour near the sea with a visit to the Santa Clara Dam, Parque das Águas, a delicious Chocolate Factory, among other moments in the Zone Riverside and in the picturesque village of Zambujeira do Mar.
The Santa Clara Dam, which was once the largest Portuguese dam, located on a small plain bathed by the River Mira, in the municipality of Odemira, has a reservoir covering about 2.000 hectares.
The trip continues to Parque das Águas, in Odemira, a harmonious and integrated space, with diversified services, places of rest and leisure, picnic areas and entertainment areas, ideal for picnics and strolls.
In the afternoon, the trip has a sweet destination, the factory of “Chocolates da Beatriz”, an artisanal chocolate production factory. The adventure along the Costa Vicentina also reserves a relaxing walk through the Zona Ribeirinha and ends with a brief visit to the typical village of Zambujeira do Mar, part of the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, bordered by cliffs and small beaches of unique beauty.
The Senior Walks are free of charge and aim to combat loneliness and bring together elderly people from São Brás, who come from more than 2 dozen sites throughout the municipality, taking around 800 participants to discover new places and a little more of the wonders of Portugal.
