Tavira took another step yesterday to become a more attractive county for technology-based business initiatives and creative industries. The Algarve municipality formalized a partnership with the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), which will make it possible to take advantage of the experience of this North American higher education institution in the installation and promotion of the business incubator that the Tavirense municipality is going to create.

This was "another step" to create "a business climate" in Tavira, considered the mayor of Tavira Jorge Botelho. The business incubator will be installed in the Parque Empresarial de Tavira and managed by the Empresa Municipal Parques Empresariais de Tavira (EMPET).

On Friday, after the first session of the conference cycle «Activate Tavira», a fundamental step was taken towards the installation of the incubator, with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Chamber of Tavira and NJIT.

A partnership that is expected to be very fruitful for the municipality of Algarve, as NJIT hosts the largest business incubator in the State of New Jersey, in the United States of America (USA) and is the “head” of a network of incubators with scope which is currently helping 500 companies take their first steps.

Jorge Botelho was the municipality's representative at the signing of the memorandum and guaranteed that this is just another step in the municipality's strategy to become more attractive to business initiatives. "It is very important that we succeed in realizing the opportunities that may arise in this land", he explained.

“The spill in Tavira, which 3 years ago was at 1,5 percent, the maximum prescribed by law, is decreasing and will disappear next year. We are also creating privileged conditions in water fees» and in other areas, for companies that set up in the municipality, revealed Jorge Botelho.

The vice-rector of NJIT and director of the business incubator there, Judith Sheft, in addition to having represented the American university in the signing of the memorandum, made the institution she represents better known in one of the interventions of the conference «Ativar Tavira».

As Judith Sheft recalled, when talking about entrepreneurship, in the US, you can't stop talking about New Jersey. It was in this neighboring state of New York that some icons of North American industry, such as Rockefeller, the Johnston brothers (Johnston & Johnston), Graham Bell and Thomas Edison started their business activity and from where they created authentic economic empires, which still today they last. And it was this new industry that was at the genesis of the university in the XNUMXth century.

Times have changed and good business ideas and the will to make them are seldom enough to succeed, it is necessary to create conditions for these businesses to flourish. And that is precisely what Tavira wants to do.
