Yvan Muller, in Chevrolet, and Swiss Alain Menu (Chevrolet Cruze), incarnating the character «Michel Vaillant», won the two races of this Sunday's World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), which took place over the weekend at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve.

Tiago Monteiro, the Portuguese star in the championship, had to settle for 7th and 8th places in the standings. The Portuguese driver complained about the lack of power from his engine for a circuit as challenging as the one in Portimão.

«The races were very limited, aggressive and hard, but fun. The lack of power was crucial, as I had to defend positions, in a fight for the best position», commented the Portuguese driver.

This Sunday, the Portugal Cup of Circuits was decided in Portimão and saw César Campaniço/Carlos Vieira be kings and lords throughout the weekend after winning both races and lifting the Cup.

In today's race, José Pedro Fontes/Miguel Barbosa were the runners-up and Patrick Cunha/José Ramos were third.

The AutoGp played its second race this Sunday and, just like yesterday, it was the English driver Adrian Quaife-Hobbs who came out the winner. In second and third place on the podium were Chris Van der Drift and Sergey Sirotkin respectively.

As for the Classics, the second races of the weekend took place early in the morning. At the CPCC, Luís Barros (Porsche 930 Turbo) took the first place on the podium and António Nogueira (Ford Capri RS 3100) took second. In third was Rui Alves (Ford Escort RS 1600).

In the 1300 Classics Alexandre Beirão (Alfasud Sprint) won prominently with more than 30 seconds ahead of the second placed, Frederico Castro (FIAT 128 Sport) and more than a minute and a half over the third Miguel Ferreira (Ford Escort 1.3 GT) .

The second race of the Maserati Trophy was equally lively with Italian Giorgio Sernagiotto taking home first place. Riccardo Romagnoli took second place and Joe Ghanem third.

Within a month, the Portimão Circuit will receive another race of the world championship, but this time the FIA GT1.
