This Friday, the 1st, Luís Carito was re-elected as president of the PS/Portimão Political Committee, beating his opponent Joaquim Castelão Rodrigues, but by a not too loose margin.

Carito, who led the list B, received 129 votes (52,8%), against Castelão's 109 (44,6%). There were also 5 blank votes and one null.

With this vote, Carito managed to elect 20 members of the Municipality, while Castelão was left with 17 members.

At the end of the counting of votes, in statements to the Sul Informação, both candidates underlined the great participation of militants in these internal elections of the Portimonenses socialists. In fact, of the 261 militants who could vote, 244 (93,4%) exercised their right, making this the most participated electoral event in the PS/Portimão municipality.

About his victory with a small margin, Carito, who is vice-president of the Chamber, commented that "those in power always have some weariness". In any case, said the re-elected President of the Municipality, "we are all prepared for future challenges." "Now is to prepare the future and join efforts"

For his part, Castelão Rodrigues stressed that, thanks to the places achieved, “we will not fail to have a say. We have a position in the Political Commission that will have to be heard”.

In any case, he assured, “the internal dispute ended tonight. PS is unique and our fight is out there».

After knowing the result, Luís Carito invited Castelão Rodrigues to be part of the secretariat of the Portimonenses socialists, but the candidate was defeated, commenting on these invitations to the Sul Informação, he just said: «let's talk».
