Júlio Barroso expects D. Ana Beach filling works at the end of summer

Since 1999, works are planned to fill the Praia D. Ana sand, in Lagos, and Júlio Barroso is waiting […]

Works to fill the beach at Praia D. Ana, in Lagos, have been planned since 1999, and Júlio Barroso hopes that 2012 will be the year in which the project is completed. The press said that the Government has planned 1,79 million euros to widen the beach in that bathing area, but officially, the mayor of Lacobrigense has not yet been made aware of this intention.

On the day that Júlio Barroso raised the blue flags on six beaches in the municipality – Luz, Porto de Mós, Camilo, Dona Ana, Potato and Meia Praia -, the mayor explained to the Sul Informação that this news does not surprise him, but that he only learned of the Government's intention through the press.

“I've already learned from the press that, nationally, Praia Dona Ana is the one with the highest priority in filling the sand, something that doesn't surprise me, because it's been planned since 1999,” he said.

Júlio Barroso remembers that, in 2009, the works started to start but were interrupted. "The process started, there was a project, a tender, and the work began in 2009, but due to a gross design error, as I was told by INAG, the project had to be suspended."

The mayor of Lagos says that “it is entirely fair that Dona Ana beach is the first to be intervened to conclude this do/don't do novel, always without giving the Council much “cheap”. We only learn something from the press, or when we insist and upset the official entities. Nobody deigns to inform the Chamber of anything, something that is absolutely regrettable and is an incredible lack of respect for the local elected officials».

However, for Júlio Barroso, the important thing is that the work is done. «I hope that, finally, at the end of the summer, the work moves forward. That they do it urgently because that beach is in great need, as identified in the Plan for the Development of the Coastal Coast», he concluded.
