AGECAL promotes a free course on «The Memory Spaces as a Cultural Resource»

«Memory Spaces as a Cultural Resource: Strategies and good practices for preservation, enhancement and programming in castles, fortresses and archaeological sites» is the theme of the open course promoted by the Association of Cultural Managers of the Algarve (AGECAL), on the 16th and 23rd of June (Saturdays), in Faro.

The course, which will be trained by the archaeologist Rui Parreira, is intended for cultural managers, senior technicians in Public Administration, students from the courses of Cultural Heritage, Archeology and History. Lasting eight hours, the course costs 50 euros for the general public and 40 euros for AGECAL members.

During the course, the main theoretical currents of safeguarding immovable cultural property will be discussed and, based on specific cases, the preservation and enhancement policies, management models and performance of the public and private sectors and the so-called «third sector ».

Based on practical examples, a reflection will be made on the intrinsic value of immovable cultural goods (places of identity and their creative and educational potential), their social value (debating the social return on investment in preservation and knowledge) and the economic value will be discussed. and commercial heritage (generating income and employment, 'brands', and the positive impact of immovable cultural goods in the tourism, catering and hotel sector).

Finally, some specific aspects of the programming of activities in these cultural spaces will be addressed, based on specific cases of promotion and dissemination, volunteering and fundraising (from central administration, community funds and patronage).
