Custódio Moreno wants to give greater dynamism to the Socialist Party in Olhão and give more voice to socialist militants in that municipality.
The current president of the Pechão Parish Council will dispute the position of president of the PS/Olhão with Antonio Miguel Pina, next Saturday, and wants to change the way the PS interacts with its militants, the citizens of Olho and the living forces of the municipality.
Without assuming himself as a candidate for the Chamber of Olhão "at this moment", Custódio Moreno does not discard this hypothesis. But he guarantees that he will leave the decision in the hands of the militants, following the PS recommendations at the national level.
“I want to make it very clear that this project is not against anyone. Its goals are to build and help to make… it is a clash of ideas», he began by warning Custódio Moreno. But even so, he did not fail to criticize the way in which the council has been led by its opponent in the June 2 elections.
«In recent years we have been verifying that our PS/Olhão, accommodated to winning, fell asleep. It has been far from reality, closed in a dome. And that worries us a lot», he considered.
In a conversation with the Sul Informação, Custódio Moreno defended that the PS/Olhão summit has not been calling the militants to the decision process. In recent years, he argued, militants have been confronted with decisions and have only been asked to validate them. One example he gave was the “lack of local council meetings and conventions”.
“The last [convention that took place was in March, because we came to put a finger to the wound, warning that our party does not reflect, does not listen and does not have a strategic vision. What is important to make clear here is the following: the political project is the most important and not the personal project», he said.
“Our project is as simple as this: opening the PS to civil society”, summarized Custódio Moreno. At a time when "it is said that people are afraid of the parties and do not care about them", the candidate considers that more serious than this "is that the parties are also afraid of people, closing themselves in that small circle of friends".
“We have a project that bets on the training of leading cadres, young mayors and our base activists. We also want to invest in openness to society and in permanent dialogue with all economic, sporting, cultural and social entities. We know what we want for Olhão, but we must not be afraid to listen to the people», he defended.
“We believe in active militancy, citizenship. In other words, one should not just engage in politics and activism on the eve of elections. And I have to humbly acknowledge that this is what my party has been doing in Olhão,” he said.
The candidate for the leadership of PS/Olhão warned that "today things are different and formations to the left have been born that have gained some area" in the municipality. "And then, we are in a transition phase, with the departure of Francisco Leal [he cannot re-run for mayor]," he recalled.
“This candidacy is born out of many desires. Of course also mine, but not only. I moved on after speaking thoughtfully with many comrades, friends and, above all, the family, who encouraged me», he said.
An application that took place “naturally” and following various incentives, whose motto is “For Olhão, Let's Revitalize the PS”. “If you asked me if I was a candidate for a while, I probably wouldn't give you the same answer. Things are changeable,” he said. "I am a man of challenges," he added. The movement that led to the presentation of this candidacy «began to meet last year» and «from one moment to the next the group «snowballed and thickened rapidly».
Custódio Moreno's message to militants is that his project "has people at the center of decisions." “A renewed and combative PS is not only achieved with the election of a leadership. It can only arise from the contribution of all militants, supporters and a process of opening up to society», he believes.
As elections for the PS/Olhão Municipal Political Commission will take place on Saturday, the 2nd, along with other municipalities, although in some the electoral act will take place tomorrow, Friday, the 1st.

Custódio Moreno has a degree in School Management and Administration and is a 1st cycle teacher. He was regional delegate of the Portuguese Youth Institute (IPJ) between 1996 and 2003 and association leader from 1978 to 2004.
He is currently the president of the Pechão Parish Council, a position he has held since 1993. He was assistant to the president of the Municipality of Olhão Francisco Leal, from 2003 to 2006.
