Portimão, Lagoa, Olhão and Castro Marim are the four municipalities of the Socialist Party in the Algarve where there will be two competing lists in the elections for the Municipal Political Commissions, which will take place on 1 and 2 June. In Monchique there are no competing lists, so the PS Federation Secretariat will schedule the elections.

Thus, in Portimão, the candidates in confrontation are Luis Carito (current president of the Municipality), with the motion «Our Ambition is Portimão», and Joaquim Castelao Rodrigues ("Change with Confidence – Returning to the Bases to Conquer the Future").

In Lagoa, they face off against Francisco Martins ("Lagoa Um Futuro Project"), who had been chosen as president of the council, in the mid-term elections, last December, and her then defeated opponent, Susana Ferreira (“Lagoa 2013 – Many Voices, One Goal)”).

In Olhão, the candidates are António Miguel Pina, vice-president of the local council ("Together we prepare 2013"), and Custódio Moreno, president of the Pechão Parish Council ("For Olhão, let's revitalize the PS".

In Castro Marim, the two opposing lists are headed by Célia Brito («Act Today to Change Tomorrow») and Tiago Néné («Pela Renovação»).

Em Faro, where two lists were announced, the candidates reached an agreement and joined their proposals in the list of Luís Graça, like the Sul Informação reported firsthand.

The remaining candidates are Ricardo Clemente (Albufeira), José Galrito (Alcoutim) and Jorge Botelho (Tavira), with elections scheduled for the 1st, and also António Marreiros (Lagos), Victor Faria (Loulé), Vitor Guerreiro (São Brás de Alportel) ), Fernando Serpa (Silves), Nuno Amado (Vila do Bispo) and Célia Paz (Vila Real de Santo António).

Of the 18 candidate lists, only three are led by women: Susana Ferreira (Lagoa), Célia Brito (Castro Marim) and Célia Paz (Vila Real de Santo António).
