Serpa City Council is once again associated with the International Day of Monuments and Sites, whose theme this year is “From World Heritage to Local Heritage: protecting and managing change”.

In this context, and departing from the local Tourism Office, the municipality promotes a guided tour, on April 18 at 15:00 pm, to the Intra-Muros Nucleus of Serpa – classified as a Public Interest Group -, which also includes access to the Clock tower.

The International Day of Monuments and Sites was created by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) on April 18, 1982 and approved by UNESCO the following year, with the aim of raising public awareness of the diversity and vulnerability of cultural heritage , as well as for the effort involved in its protection and conservation.

With the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, the “World Heritage List” was created and, for this reason, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) chose World Heritage as the theme of celebration in 2012, where the Institute for the Management of Architectural and Archaeological Heritage (IGESPAR) links to Local Heritage.

Registration for the guided tour should be addressed to [email protected] or made by contacting the Heritage Office (284 540 100).
