The names of the poster of the XXVII Academic Week of the University of Algarve are already known, which, this year, returns to the city of Faro and presents itself with a strong social aspect. Despite the 35% reduction in the budget compared to 2011, Pedro Barros, president of the Academic Association, says that the quality of the poster for the biggest student party south of the Tagus is maintained.
Xutos e Pontapés, José Cid, Buraka Som Sistema, Expensive Soul, Quim Roscas and Zeca Estacionâncio, Anjos and Steve Aoki are some of the names that stand out in a “party program” that also counts on the presence of many Algarve bands.
In addition to the budget reduction, which this year is around 600 euros, there are many news regarding the last Academic Week, with the return to the city center of Faro one of the main changes.
The Wonderland moves to the Penha sports complex and the municipal swimming pools, in a place that, for Pedro Barros, will be “welcoming, and without the enormity of last year [in Vale das Almas]. It will be a space that fits our needs», he guarantees.
One of the reasons that led the Academic Week to leave, in 2011, the center of the Algarve capital, was the noise caused by the concerts, something that, according to the president of the Academic Association, this year, will be taken care of.
«There will be an electronic space, where the DJs will act, which will be closed, to prevent the propagation of sound and there will be an hourly reduction in the venue's operating time between Monday and Thursday. In addition, there will be a reduction in sound intensity and the concerts on the main stage will not extend far beyond one in the morning», he said at a press conference held at the Main Hall of the City Hall of Faro, but that Macário Correia was not present, for reasons of schedule.
If the course stalls, the electronic space and the food court are guaranteed on the premises, there is an absence in Wonderland compared to previous years: the RUA Stage. According to Pedro Barros, budgetary restraint dictated an "interruption" of the Academic Week's secondary stage, but, according to him, "that doesn't mean that it won't come back next year."
Eight days, eight institutions
In 2012, Associação Académica celebrates the year of solidarity and this has not been forgotten for this XXVII edition of the Academic Week. Eight social solidarity institutions will be supported over the eight days of concerts in Wonderland.
The Anjos, Sérgio and Nélson Rosado, attended the press conference to present the SA poster, and it was their responsibility to draw a day dedicated to each association. Pedro Barros explained that support will be given to the collection of clothing and food for the selected institutions and autographed CDs and t-shirts will be given away by the artists who will take the stage in Wonderland, so that they can be auctioned.
