The president of the Court of Auditors Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins was on Friday at Fnac do AlgarveShopping to participate in the series of debates «Opportunidades na Crise», promoted by NERA Associação Empresarial do Algarve, Fnac Algarve and Soifer Editor, within the scope of the presentation from the books «Portugal Rural», «Lucrar na Crise» and «Sair da Crise».

The theme, this time, was “The Sea” and there was talk of aquaculture in brackish waters, close to the shore, and offshore.

Jack Soifer narrated the system for collecting oil from frying and workshops, which after recycling into biodiesel, is sold to fishermen for less than half a euro in Northern European countries.

He also said that, with some organization, the Aquaculture sector, in the Algarve and Alentejo alone, would export twice as much as it currently imports throughout the country.

The businessmen present criticized the bureaucracy for fishermen and shellfish collectors, the ease of illegal fishing in our waters, the derisory quotas given by the EU and the degrading prices paid by large supermarkets.

Among the interventions, mention should be made of that of the Alentejo exporter, Commander António Silvestre, that of the naval officer Osvaldo Manuel and that of the Algarve deputy of CDS Artur Rego.
