The PSP of Tavira, complying with a search warrant issued by the Court of that city, seized, this Thursday, metal cutting material at the home of a man suspected of being the perpetrator of crimes of copper theft.

In the searches, which began at 7:00 am, the PSP also seized mobile phones and car radios, among other objects that are presumed to have resulted from thefts or used to commit them.

According to the District Command of Faro of the PSP, the search warrant was issued following an inquiry started last December, indicting the detainee, a 36-year-old foreigner, residing in Tavira and «already known by the police for the practice of theft and possession of firearms".

During the searches of the defendant's house, 14 mobile phones of various makes and models, six car radios, three Ford car keys, two CO2 gas cylinders, two other gas cylinders with a torch adapter with a saw were seized, supposedly for cutting metal, 16 mobile phone chargers of various brands, two toolboxes for plumbing and electricity, a sledgehammer, a nail wrench, three cutting scissors, one large, one medium and one small, for cutting iron, four drills, a hacksaw, a 25-metre electrical extension.

The PSP adds that the man "has no professional occupation" and "everything indicates that he is dedicated to the practice of crimes of copper theft and others that were not investigated."

The suspect has been arrested and will appear in court tomorrow at 10:00 am.

However, the PSP says it will continue to investigate whether the items now seized have been stolen and where.
