Did you know that the Palácio da Galeria has gaps despite the building being undamaged? That various artists tried to imitate rocks by painting them on altar wood? That there are fossils over 100 million years old in the Convento do Carmo?

On the 21st of January, at 15:00 pm, the commented tour “From the Museum to the Convent” takes place under the guidance of Luís Azevedo Rodrigues (paleontologist) and Rita Manteigas (art historian).

Departing from the Municipal Museum of Tavira – Palácio da Galeria, the visit aims to promote the city's historical heritage, (re)seen through the eyes of specialists.

Participating in this action allows you to discover the originality, qualities and underlying history of the rocks (some with fossils) applied in the churches of Santa Maria, Misericórdia and Carmo. During the tour, it is possible to observe the distinction between the materials chosen for the ennobled spaces and those applied in the common areas.

It is also possible to differentiate the origins of the rocks used in the construction of the city until the XNUMXth century, from those used in recent renovations, such as in Praça da República.

“From the Museum to the Convento” is a partnership between the Municipal Museum of Tavira and the Centro de Ciência Viva de Tavira.
