The Municipal Civil Protection of Albufeira, in collaboration with the Parish Councils of the municipality, is carrying out an awareness-raising action aimed at owners of unprotected wells, along the public road.

The objective is to inform the population of the legal obligation to put a guard or guarantee the effective coverage of the wells, either by building a protective wall with a minimum height of eighty centimeters from the ground surface, or by applying a fence at the top of the well.

“Wells camouflaged by vegetation and without adequate protection are real traps and represent a great danger of falling for people and animals. Therefore, it is extremely important to sensitize the owners of land with wells next to the public road, to protect them, reminding them that this is a legal obligation”, says Carlos Quintino, councilor responsible for Civil Protection.

After carrying out a diagnosis of the situation and ascertaining the number of risk-causing wells in the municipality, on December 5th, the action took place in the parish of Paderne, in the presence of councilor Carlos Quintino and the president of the Junta de Parish of Paderne Francisco Guerreiro.

Failure to comply with Decree-Law 310/2002, which regulates this matter, results in a fine for the owner of the well.
