They are in any European dish and are responsible for the most exotic flavors in our cuisine. Spices such as pepper, cinnamon, ginger and clove are here to stay and now set the tone for the IX Congress of the European Council of Enogastronomic Confraternity, which takes place from 4 to 6 November in Albufeira, with the support from the Algarve Tourism.

«The Spice Route – its importance in traditional European gastronomy – and the wines of Europe» is the theme of this edition, which expects around 100 confraternities from nine countries and 600 participants, estimates the grand master of the Confraria de Gastronomos do Algarve José Manuel Alves.

"This year we will have the biggest congress ever", says Manuel Alves, also vice-president of the European Council of Enogastronomic Confraternity (CEUCO).

The annual congress is organized by CEUCO and starts at 10:00 am on Saturday, the 5th, at Hotel Grande Real Santa Eulália, in Albufeira.

The program highlights the appointment of new CEUCO ambassadors and the delivery of the “Aurum 2011 – Europe Excellence Enogastronomic” awards.

According to the president of Turismo do Algarve António Pina, this event “is an excellent opportunity to promote the region, especially as we will receive people from Spain, France, Italy, Hungary and Greece. That's why we support this initiative, which will also help to promote our products, our gastronomy».

The event is open to the general public and to participate, simply register via email. [email protected] or the number 960 064 967. More information at www.ceuco.com.
