Roasted sweet potatoes, cabbage, chickpeas, pumpkin, broccoli, spinach, bay leaf, olives, prickly pears, fig stars, almonds, chilli. These are just some of the products that can be found on Sunday, the 27th, at Mercado de Querença.

This is the second edition of the market, promoted under the Querença Project, and also includes two workshops, one on medronho and another on innovative handicraft, a tour to discover the village's cultural heritage and also good snacks in local restaurants and cafes, as well as musical animation.

At 9 am, the Cultural Tour begins in Querença, just three kilometers long, guided by an enthusiastic son of the land, Luís Guerreiro. The tour will take the 20 registered participants to discover the historical and cultural heritage of this village in the interior of the municipality of Loulé.

Registration is mandatory ([email protected] or 289 442607), cost 5 euros (includes insurance) and have to be made by this Friday.

At the same time, also in the church square, the Workshop on Medronho begins, which will have Mr. Leonardo and Paula Miguel as trainers.

The traditional activities of the rural world are in decay, but there is knowledge that lasts in time. Those who participate in this workshop will learn, for example, how to catch the best strawberry trees for the production of brandy, but also how to make culinary recipes with the fruit of the arbutus tree. Have you ever tasted arbutus pudding? Want to know how it's done? then participate in this activity!

Registration also costs 5 euros, limited to 15 people ([email protected] or 289 442607).

The day's other workshop focuses on innovative craftsmanship. It is a partnership with the TASA Project (Técnicas Artesanais Soluções Atual), which focuses on the strategic renewal of artisanal products.

This workshop gives participants the opportunity to learn how to work with cane and cork to create traditional toys.

Registration costs 5 euros (one adult + one child) and are limited to 15 people ([email protected] or 289 442607). The training will be given by Ana Silva.

In addition to products from the village and surroundings that can be bought at the Market (which is open from 10 am to 13 pm, in Largo da Igreja), the Querença Restaurant will also be open and offers a special menu for the market, which costs 10 euros for the adults and five for children. The restaurant will reopen soon, with new management, so it will be back in a short time at the Church of Querença, one of its gastronomic ex-libris.
