As of this month of November, the Municipality of Tavira makes available on its website the monthly menu of school cafeterias.

This measure aims to “strengthen the relations between the local authority, the school community and those responsible for education in the pursuit of improving the service provided in the pre-school, 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle canteens”.

Jorge Botelho, mayor of Tavira, in a recent meeting with journalists, highlighted that the municipality has been focusing on the quality of food provided in school canteens, in such a way that one of the first decisions of its executive was «to put an end to the food. regenerated in schools. Currently, all the kids eat fresh food, prepared daily in the canteens».

At this time, added the mayor, a total of «1650 students eat in school cafeterias» in the municipality of Tavira, when last school year that number was around 1300.

The menus are prepared based on the Hygiene and Food Safety Standards in order to guarantee the school population the nutritional balance required in these age groups.

The Management of Meals in School Canteens has been, since 2008, one of the services of the municipality certified by APCER – Portuguese Certification Association, for complying with the requirements of the Portuguese Standard ISO 9001:2008.
