Little space, many people and expressions that denoted, at the very least, dissatisfaction marked this morning at the Airport of Faro. The partial fall of the roof at two different points in the free access area of the passenger terminal caused five injuries, one of which was still admitted to the Hospital de Faro, in a “stable” situation.

Two large areas of the airport had to be closed to the public for security reasons. This meant that only the central part was available to those waiting for their flight. With the late-night and early-morning delays, there were also many more people than expected.

In addition to overcrowding, passengers also had to struggle with lack of food. Most of the restaurants, including the cafeteria at the Airport of Faro, are located in the affected areas and therefore closed to the public. There remained a few vending machines and a small cafe, where long lines formed.

For some time, the existing service station near the airport of Faro also served as an alternative. But, as revealed to the Sul Informação a Dutch passenger who had his family waiting “since 8 am”, quickly ran out of sandwiches at the establishment.

“I still went to the gas pump, despite the risk that traffic represents [accesses to the Airport are under construction], but there was nothing left,” he said. Despite taking two children with him, “who didn't eat breakfast”, this tourist kept a smile on his face.

The same did not happen with a group of visitors from Germany, who had been waiting “for three hours” to board to Lisbon, where they would catch a plane to Frankfurt.

“It was the first time I came to Portugal and I don't leave here with a good image. We tried to get information from the employees, but no one could tell us anything», said one of the members of the group.

Although, around 12 o'clock, the environment installed in the airport terminal of Faro still being chaotic, whoever had been there for several hours assured that it had already been worse. At the time, check-in was already taking place for several flights and passengers had already started boarding.

So far, this situation has led to the delay of 10 arrivals and as many departures, as well as the cancellation of a flight.

With the resumption of operations, they have already arrived at the Airport of Faro five flights and three departed.

During the morning, and mainly due to the problems registered at the airport's Control Tower, where the wind broke windows and damaged computer equipment, flights were diverted to Seville Airport, but the operation is slowly returning to normal. little.

José Correia Mendes, Director of the Airport of Faro, told the Sul Informação who hopes that, over the course of the day, the 65 flights will be made whose departure was predicted to take place today in Faro.
