The rising jetty at the Tavira bar is "on the verge of ruin", warned the council of the Left Block of this Algarve county this Thursday. The BE is based on studies by the National Civil Engineering Laboratory (LNEC), which, it guarantees, "confirm this assessment".

A situation for which the bloc has already given public and official warning, both to the Port and Maritime Transport Institute as well as to the Tavira City Council, at the Municipal Assembly of September 26, but which apparently did not trigger an action plan.

"Although it is aware of these facts, the IPTM does not seem to have publicly attributed the importance that this fact justifies", accused BE de Tavira, who adds that it was made aware of the situation by technicians who work for that entity. "The collapse of the bar would mean its total obstruction," he added.

«The closure would represent the total paralysis of fishing activity in the entire municipality of Tavira, from huts to Santa Luzia, as it would mean the isolation of the countless pleasure boats that seek the Quatro-Águas as a harbor», illustrated the blocistas.

«Added to the worrying siltation of the bar, which was aggravated by the paralysis of the sand extraction activity, which has ensured the silting up for a long time. Likewise, there are the access channels to Cabanas and Santa Luzia and even the Santa Luzia pier may no longer have access in the short term”, they concluded.

“At the Municipal Assembly of Tavira on 26 September, the municipal deputy of the Left Bloc José Manuel do Carmo raised the issue, alerting local political powers to the seriousness of the situation,” added BE.
