The Municipal Center in Quarteira receives the presentation of the book «Uma Nova Oportunidade», by José Alfredo Leiria, on Saturday 3rd, at 17 pm, in an organization of the Municipal Library of Loulé.

The opening of the session will be a performance of António Aleixo's “Auto do Ti Joaquim”, by the Pupilos Theater Group and friends of Professor Amílcar Quaresma from the Casa do Povo in Estoi.

José Alfredo Teixeira Leiria was born in August 1957, in the parish of Estoi, municipality of Faro. Professionally linked to telecommunications, he never stopped developing cultural activities.

«Uma Nova Oportunidade» is his first book, based on a real episode that took place in April 1987, on the EN125, in the Algarve.

History professor José Estanislau had used that route on the EN 125 only two or three times, but that morning he went to pick up his journalist friend at the airport in Faro. They were already on their way back to Quarteira when the teacher was forced to brake hard to avoid getting involved in a tragic traffic accident.

Everything unfolded, there, in front of him, a few meters away, in a succession of painful images.

There were going to be nights and nights when the professor's sleep would be assaulted by strange nightmares. In all of them, he watched decisive episodes from the Brazil of the XNUMXth century, in the company of one of the victims of the accident – at that time in a coma.

When Pires learned that those nightmares revealed to the professor a place on the Algarve coast, where a ship had sunk, loaded with treasures from Brazil, he immediately hired a yacht to rescue them from the bottom of the sea.

Taking advantage of such enthusiasm, the professor, under the prescription and guidance of a psychologist, intended to combat the nightmares by dramatizing them aboard the said yacht.

Faced with the unexpected result of such an expensive undertaking, Pires, dissatisfied, immediately starts an obstinate inquiry.

It took many years until his last attempt to unravel the imbroglio that covered that treasure hunt, which he had financed so hard. However, he had no idea how his final move would raise questions as unusual as they were decisive.

Admission is free.
