The gastronomic route “Rota do Petisco”, which aims to promote restaurants and commerce in the Algarve, won the National Tourism Award 2021, in the “Gastronomic Tourism” category. André Jordan, the well-known “father of Portuguese tourism”, was honored with the Career Award.

A Snack Route, the month-long gastronomic itinerary, in which participants are guided by a “passport”, through almost 300 restaurants and commerce establishments, in 11 municipalities in the region, was one of the five winners of the 2021 National Tourism Award. do Petisco is an initiative of the association Web of Impulses, which is based in Portimão, where, by the way, the initiative began in 2011.

André Jordan, known as “the father of Portuguese tourism”, was honored with the Career Award, standing out «for the fundamental role he played in creating an image of modernity and sophistication in national tourism», says BPI, promoter of this award. of prizes.

The honoree with the Career Award «placed the Algarve and Portugal on the world map of quality tourism, with a long-term vision and always considering environmental and sustainability issues».

Its path stands out for the creation of Quinta do Lago, Belas Clube de Campo and Vilamoura, with the Vilamoura XXI project, having «invested in the development of golf tourism, essential in the tourist activity of the Algarve region, one of the main destinations at a global level», points out BPI.

The winners were announced this Monday, February 7, in an event that was attended by the main players from the Tourism sector, members of the Committees and the competition jury.

The initiative, organized in partnership between BPI and the weekly Expresso, had as its central axis «the Sustainable Development Goals» and received in this edition more than 400 applications for «innovative, sustainable and inclusive national projects».

The National Tourism Award was created with the aim of «rewarding Portuguese companies that stand out as successful cases in the tourism sector», concludes the BPI.
