21 home users of Boliqueime have Covid-19

Of the cases that tested positive, "the majority do not show symptoms and there are no cases that require further care"

21 users of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia home in Boliqueime are infected with Covid-19. The information has just been confirmed by Vítor Aleixo, mayor of Loulé, in a statement to the press outside that home.

According to the mayor, of the 59 users tested, "33 were negative, 21 positive and 5 were inconclusive".

Of the cases that tested positive, "the majority have no symptoms and there is no one to inspire greater care," said Vítor Aleixo.

With regard to the 70 employees, «17 had a negative test, 6 were inconclusive and the rest are awaiting the result».

Faced with this situation, the Municipality of Loulé has already activated a contingency plan with several aspects. “The negative users are being transported to a hotel, where they will be isolated, accompanied by a team of employees from the home,” explained Vítor Aleixo.

Those who tested positive, “remain at home, but in areas totally separate from the users whose results were inconclusive”.

As for employees who expect results and "those who were inconclusive, are in isolation in their homes."

Finally, the “negative employees were divided into two teams – one will work at the home and the other at the hotel with the negative users”.

RTP states that, in addition to the 21 users who have the new coronavirus, the director of the home and her 2-year-old son are also infected.

In this statement to the press, made in Boliqueime, Vítor Aleixo assured that the “City of Loulé is closely monitoring the situation and will take all necessary measures to guarantee the safeguarding of the health and safety of the residents”.

"In view of the current pandemic, I remind you that it is in the hands of everyone to adopt responsible behavior, following the recommendations of the health authorities," he concluded.

At a press conference, held this morning, Ana Cristina Guerreiro, Regional Health Delegate, had stated that the Algarve also had cases of Covid-19 in homes, similarly to what happens in other parts of the country.

These 21 cases join the 26 that were reported today by the DGS, totaling 47 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in the municipality of Loulé.
