The Minister of the Presidency stated that the XXIV Constitutional program, approved today, is based on the AD electoral program, but incorporates more than 60 measures that coincide with those of other parties.

António Leitão Amaro was speaking at the end of the meeting of the Council of Ministers, which approved the program of the XXIV Constitutional Government.

“This is a Government program for change, built with dialogue based on the AD electoral program, but seeking to welcome more than 60 proposals from other party programs with parliamentary seats”, he said.

Furthermore, the Program of the XXIV Constitutional Government considers that the electoral result of the last legislative elections “constitutes a responsibility for all parliamentary forces”.

“The Government has the obligation, throughout its mandate, to present a spirit of openness and dialogue capable of accepting positive and constructive positions and contributions from different political parties and various civic and social forces. On the side of the opposition political forces, the responsibility is no less”, reads the introduction of the text.

According to the document, “the best interests of Portugal and the Portuguese impose a democratic sense of putting the national interest first and taking a constructive stance, duly safeguarding the political and ideological positions of each person.

“If everyone knows how to assume this responsibility, the country's governmental stability and governability will be guaranteed and the plurality and diversity of political forces represented in the Assembly of the Republic will be respected”, the text also highlights, a position aligned with which has been defended by the main leaders of the PSD and CDS-PP.
