Minister of Health accepts resignation of the executive director of the SNS

The executive management began its activity on January 1, 2023

The Minister of Health today accepted the resignation of the executive director of the National Health Service (SNS), Fernando Araújo, indicating that «in due time the solution for the Executive Directorate will be known».

On Tuesday late afternoon, the executive director of the SNS announced his resignation, together with his team, claiming that he does not want to be an obstacle to the Government in the policies and measures it deems necessary.

«The minister has already responded to Dr. Fernando Araújo, thanking him for the communication and service provided, and conveying the acceptance of that request, which was presented voluntarily and spontaneously», says the Ministry of Health, in a statement.

The Ministry of Health adds that «in due time the solution will be known to the Executive Directorate, which will have the mission of carrying out effective reforms, including in operational management and care provision, which are urgently needed to turn the page in defense of the SNS, and finally remedy the heavy legacy that so negatively affects access, in time and quality, to health, especially for the most vulnerable people».

The executive direction began its activity on January 1, 2023, following the new SNS Statute proposed by the then minister Marta Temido, with the aim of coordinating the assistance response of all SNS units and modernizing its management.
