The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel delivered, on February 14th, a vote of praise to the young athlete from São Brás de Alportel, Mafalda Marreiros, who, at 13 years old, «already has an extraordinary track record of achievements in athletics».
A young student, Mafalda balances her time between studies and her passion for sport. She began practicing athletics in a school context in 2018, becoming a federated athlete in 2021, integrated into the Clube Oriental de Pechão.
In the 2022/2023 sports season, in the children's category (U14), he distinguished himself in Athletics, both as a federated athlete representing the Clube Oriental de Pechão, and in School Sports, representing the José Belchior Viegas School Group of São Brás of Alportel, in both cases, with very positive results.
In 2023, he reached the podium numerous times, obtaining excellent individual classifications in running and cross-country, especially in the Algarve and also in the south of Spain, where the following stand out, among many others:
> on January 4th, winning 1st place in the school cross-country race;
>on April 5th, 1st place in the XVII Freedom Race – Portimão;
>on April 29, 2nd place in the XX Grand Prix of Odiáxere;
> on December 30th, as 1st classified I Carrera Popular de Villanueva de los Castillejos, Spain;
> on December 31st, the last title of the year, as 2nd in the 48th São Silvestre da Amadora Race.
In the collective awards, the highlight goes to 3rd place, obtained in the middle distance in the national School Sports championships that took place in Óbidos, in May 2023.
Recently, she was also distinguished as 3rd place in the Under-14 Regional Tournament, at the 61st anniversary ceremony of the Algarve Athletics Association, held on January 10, 2024.
In the current 2023/2024 season, it is already integrated into the U16 beginners' category, where a promising sporting career can be seen.
«Bearing in mind his journey and his achievements that confirm his determination to win and consolidate the practice of athletics, exemplified by the excellent results achieved in school sports, the salutary example he sets for other young people and the way in which he has raised the name of São Brás de Alportel and make the São Brasense community proud, the municipal executive approved the attribution of a vote of praise to this young athlete», explains the City Council.
