The Municipality of Lagos will once again support the municipality's cultural and recreational associations, this year with a total amount of around 800 thousand euros, which represents an increase of 19% compared to what was approved in 2023.

The proposal was approved yesterday and, according to the municipality, of the 96 candidate projects, presented by 24 local cultural agents, the municipality decided, based on the evaluation, to support 70, ranging from popular music to music and dance schools , including theatrical and performing arts, choral groups, crafts, collecting and activities for the senior population.

«The investment in public training and the projects carried out in conjunction with the municipality's school groups, aimed at the student population, were some of the valued criteria», explains the Municipality.

In addition to financial support, the municipality will continue to provide logistical support for carrying out activities and its fleet of vehicles for cultural agents to travel and participate in events within and outside the municipality.

Non-financial support is, once again, extended to other entities, such as parishes, the League of Combatants, the National Scout Corps and Parish Councils, which, despite not being classified as cultural groups, carry out work meritorious in terms of dynamization and involvement of local communities.

At the same meeting, the municipality decided on the amounts of financial support to be allocated to the six communities that accepted the municipality's invitation to participate in the 5th edition of the Popular Marches, an event that will liven up the city from the 13th to the 15th of June.

The communities are Estrela Desportiva de Bensafrim, NECI – Specialized Center for the Inclusive Citizen, Clube Desportivo de Odiáxere, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lagos, Clube Artístico Lacobrigense and the Workers' Culture and Sports Center of the City Council of Lagos.

«The six thousand euros to be allocated to each entity is intended to cover the costs arising from musical, choreographic, scenographic and wardrobe production, as this is an event that experiences a lot of this visual and musical impact», says the Lagos Chamber.
