Faro joins “Earth Hour” and invites the population to do the same

This Saturday, March 23, between 20:30 pm and 21:30 pm

The Municipality of Faro will once again join “Earth Hour”, a global movement against climate change, this Saturday, March 23, from 20:30 pm to 21:30 pm, and invites the population to do the same.

In a symbolic act of environmental concern, the lights will be turned off for 60 minutes in Arco da Vila, Largo da Sé, the Paços do Concelho building, the former Civil Government building and Jardim Manuel Bivar.

In addition to this symbolic moment, which marks the Municipality’s adherence to “Earth Hour” for the 16th year, Faro invites the population to join this initiative and turn off the lights in their homes, between 20:30 pm and 21:30 pm, in a gesture of raising awareness of the fight against climate change and promoting a better environment for future generations.

Earth Hour was born in Sydney, Australia, and has been held annually since 2007, having become a global sustainability movement that already unites millions of people.

“Small actions with big impact” is the motto for this year’s Earth Hour.

«This initiative has become a moment of action, remembering that we can all and must play an active role in preserving and recovering nature. Portuguese municipalities have been making history as invaluable partners in this global movement, whether by carrying out local actions or through the temporary blackout of some of their main monuments", emphasizes the municipality of Faro in note.

The Municipality also recalls that «in line with its environmental protection policy, it has been undertaking several environmental commitments, namely the replacement of luminaires in the public lighting network with LED technology lamps, thus guaranteeing very significant energy savings and general sustainability gains».
