Albufeira Arts and Crafts Center wins Algarve architecture award

The space, managed by the Municipality of Albufeira, has been open for around a year

The rehabilitation of the old Albufeira Court, now the Arts and Crafts Center, was one of the projects awarded in the 3rd Edition of the Algarve Architecture Prize.

The Carlos Silva e Sousa Arts and Crafts Center is the result of a profound intervention carried out within the scope of the PARU (Urban Regeneration Action Plan) candidacy for Albufeira with a total investment of 640 thousand euros.

The intervention was supported by the CRESC Algarve 2020 Operational Program in the amount of 416 thousand euros, which allowed the complete rehabilitation of the old building, which was in an advanced state of degradation, with a strategic location in the historic center of the city of Albufeira and an area of 920m2, requalifying it with physical and functional characteristics for this type of cultural equipment.

The architectural project for the Arts and Crafts Center, prepared by “Estúdio ODS Arquitetos”, was awarded in the “3rd Edition of the Algarve Architecture Award”, in the “Equipment, Services and Industry” category, an initiative promoted by the Regional Section of the Order of Architects of the Algarve.

«This initiative encourages architectural quality, the qualification of the landscape and the safeguarding of cultural heritage, representing an important contribution to the cultural valorization of the Algarve, in line with the objectives of the CRESC Algarve 2020 Operational Program», highlights CCDR Algarve.

This cultural space managed by the Municipality of Albufeira, opened about a year ago, has regular programming and is intended for activities to promote arts, techniques, knowledge and artisanal products.

In a note, the CCDR highlights that the total investments made in the area of ​​Natural and Cultural Heritage in the Algarve,
which total 37,4 million euros with associated European funds of 25,2 million euros.
