BE had more votes than in 2022 but failed to regain deputy for the Algarve

José Gusmão promises to “work to ensure that the Algarve and its problems are talked about”

The Left Bloc even had more votes than two years ago, but was still far from electing a deputy for the constituency of Faro, like José Gusmão, head of the bloc list for the Algarve, confesses that he was the party's hope.

In statements to the Sul Informação, José Gusmão revealed that «during the last week of the campaign, we talked a lot about this possibility, because we felt it was possible».

However, «despite the significant increase in the number of votes [it rose from 11.226 in 2022 to 13.579 in 2024], the fact that these were a very well-participated election, which is positive, did not allow us to elect a deputy for the Algarve again. ».

«We will continue to work to ensure that the Algarve and its problems are talked about, such as drought, public services or housing. Obviously, we preferred to do it with a deputy for the Algarve. In this way, unfortunately, the representation of the Algarve is handed over to the same three parties, with the results we saw,” he said.
