Volta ao Algarve: Remco Evenepoel wins time trial and takes the lead

Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step), winner of the 2020 and 2022 editions, today took the lead in the Volta ao Algarve on bicycle, by winning the fourth stage, a 22-kilometer time trial, in Albufeira.

Evenepoel, who started in second place overall, four seconds behind the defending champion, the Colombian Daniel Martínez (BORRA-hansgrohe), completed the distance in 27.09,142 minutes, surpassing the North American Magnus Sheffield (INEOS) for 16 seconds and the Swiss Stefan Küng (Grupama–FDJ) for 29.

In general, and on the eve of the fifth and final stage, which starts on Sunday Faro to Malhão (Loulé), over a distance of 165,8 kilometers, the Belgian has a 47 second advantage over Daniel Martínez, who fell second, and 1.12 minutes over the Slovenian Jan Tratnik (Visma-Lease a Bike), third.
