The automatic allocation of family benefit, immediately after the baby is registered at the maternity ward, began to be carried out by the Social Security Institute on Thursday, meaning it is no longer necessary for the parents to make the request.
In a statement released today, the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security states that the Social Security Institute “started proactively sending a communication with the value attributed to the baby”, without the need for the parents to make the request .
«The father or mother simply has to enter their details at Social Security Direct, in their message area, and confirm the value proposition presented. With this confirmation, Family Allowance is automatically granted, with no further action necessary,” says the ministry.
It emphasizes, on the other hand, that it is important for parents to update their personal data and contacts in Social Security Direct, in order to guarantee the automaticity and effectiveness of the measure.
The automatic allocation of family benefits is part of the Social Security Digital Transformation program, which represents an investment of 200 million euros, within the scope of the PRR.
According to data available in the statement, around 1,1 million Children and Young People currently receive family benefits, with the values of this social benefit being updated in 2024 by an additional 22 euros per month, 33 euros in the case of single-parent families.
Quoted in the statement, minister Ana Mendes Godinho argues that «the automatic allocation of Family Allowance makes it possible to eliminate barriers and guarantee the inclusion of all children covered».
