Pinto Luz (AD) says that increasing water prices is “a solution for those who did nothing”

Pinto Luz, head of the AD list, is against it and says that the measure serves to “penalize people and families who are not to blame for this”.

Miguel Pinto Luz, head of the list for the Algarve of the Democratic Alliance, considers that increasing the price of water, decision taken yesterday by AMAL, is «the solution of those who did nothing during eight years of government».

Algarve municipalities decided yesterday to increase the price of water for urban consumption in the Algarve by between 15 and 50%, a measure to be applied from the second consumption level onwards.

According to António Pina, president of AMAL, the measure “is an additional awareness-raising instrument”, to penalize those who consume more water.

Pinto Luz, head of the AD list, is against it and says it only serves to “penalize people and families who are not to blame for this”.

«People who pay, period. We are against that. It is irresponsible not to have moved forward with measures such as the Foupana Dam, the connection to Pomarão or Alqueva, the reduction of brutal system losses, for example. It rained less and no one did anything to adapt,” he considers.

Miguel Pinto Luz assumes that «the drama is that there is no solution that will be ready tomorrow, but we are going to have an integrated, urgent water management policy, to solve the problem for the next 20 years, rain or shine» .
