Play “Memoirs of a Forger” presented in Portimão with free entry

On the 25th of February at 17:00 am

The play “Memórias de uma Falsificadora”, which recalls the life of Margarida Tengarrinha (1928-2023), will be shown in the Portimão Museum Auditorium, on February 25th, at 17pm, with free entry.

The piece, promoted by the Group of Friends of the Portimão Museum (GAMP), is part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April.

The theatrical adaptation, directed by Joaquim Horta, based on the book of the same name by Margarida Tengarrinha “Memórias de uma Falsificadora”, is performed by actress Catarina Requeijo, and evokes the life of the anti-fascist resister, especially the long period in which she lived in hiding (1954-1974).

«In a very close relationship with the public using very simple artefacts, Catarina Requeijo, an actress used to pretending to be other people, recreates the most important steps in Margarida Tengarrinha's journey and gives voice to women's perspective on life in clandestinity", explains GAMP.

Her work as a forger, the constant change of home and identity, the death of her partner – José Dias Coelho – murdered by PIDE, the separation from her daughters, the isolation from family and friends will be portrayed here.

«With him, he exchanged a comfortable life for the difficult phase of clandestinity and both used their artistic ability, as Fine Arts students, in the service of forging documents, guaranteeing the work of those resisting the dictatorship».

According to GAMP, this show will also remind us that we do not always live in democracy and a warning so that these times do not happen again.

Members of the Group of Friends of the Portimão Museum can preferably collect their tickets between the 20th and 23rd of February, at the reception of the Portimão Museum from 10:00 am to 17:00 pm.

From the 24th until 15pm on the 00th, tickets can also be collected free of charge by the general public.

The show will last approximately 60 minutes, without intermission, and tickets must be picked up in advance, subject to room capacity.
