Lagos awards almost half a million euros in scholarships to 151 students

The Lagos City Council approved the award of the municipal scholarship to 151 students, which means a cost of 432 thousand euros.

161 candidates presented themselves to the competition, with the majority meeting the requirements to benefit from this financial aid.

Furthermore, the Chamber of Lagos intends with this measure to “guarantee equal opportunities for young people who wish to invest in their academic training, but, due to being displaced and the economic situation of their families, face greater difficulties in coping to the inherent expenses”.

The awarding of municipal scholarships is also seen as a way of encouraging the attendance of higher education and professional courses, improving the economic fabric of the municipality and providing it with qualified technical staff.

According to the regulations, municipal scholarships are awarded to all students who are part of a household with annual reference income positioned between the 1st and 4th scale of the family allowance.

The value of the scholarship corresponds to 60% of the value of the Social Support Index (IAS) 1, for students from 1st to
3rd level of family benefit, and 30% of the IAS value, for students in the 4th level of family benefit.

In the case of displaced students (who attend educational establishments located more than 50 kilometers away) an increase of 25 euros is added.

The grant has a maximum duration of 10 months.
