CCDR Algarve remembers André Jordan's «contribution to regional development»

He was «one of the main people responsible for positioning the Algarve as one of the main golf and tourism destinations in the world»

The Algarve Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) recalled, in a note of condolence released last night, the “contribution to regional development” made by André Jordan, who passed away on Thursday, at 90 years old.

The businessman, creator of Quinta do Lago, «rightly named as the “father” of tourism in the last 50 years, “a student of events and people”, as he liked to define himself, with work done in the Algarve and in the country, great driver of tourism in the region, its contribution to regional development, one of the main responsible for positioning the Algarve as one of the main golf and tourism destinations in the world", highlights the presidency of CCDR Algarve, in its note, in which " publicly expresses his regret at his death, offering his deepest condolences to his closest family, friends, and, in general, to the entire tourism family».

CCDR Algarve also recalls that Jordan was «considered in 2014 as one of the 12 most influential personalities in tourism worldwide, he was decorated in 2005 with the Grand Cross of the Order of Infante D. Henrique, by the President of the Republic Dr. Jorge Sampaio and, in 2023, with the Grand Cross of the Order of Commercial Merit, by the President of the Republic Professor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa».

«Also in terms of cultural action, André Jordan left his mark, having been one of the founders of the Algarve International Music Festival, in the 70s of the XNUMXth century and promoting initiatives in different parts of the region and the country», he adds .

Finally, he also recalls that organization, «on June 1, 2011 he was awarded a Doctorate Honoris Causa by the University of Algarve, which in his honor he declared academic mourning».
