A quarter of ASAE inspections are aimed at online sales

ASAE annually inspects around 40 thousand economic operators, of which around 25% are on online channels

Around 25% of inspections by the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) are currently directed to the online channel, said the authority's inspector general, Luís Lourenço, today, stressing that this channel will continue to be a priority.

ASAE, he said, annually inspects around 40 thousand economic operators, of which around 25% are in 'online' channels, covering the most diverse areas, from tourism to food, with the 'online' aspect being a “priority” in the activity of this authority.

This data was presented during the presentation session of the inspection technical sheet (FTF) on online sales of food products, prepared by ASAE in coordination and collaboration with ADIPA – Association of Food Product Distributors, taking into account the most difficult common data reported by companies.

This is the 13th FTF made available by ASAE and which provides economic agents with a summary of the legal requirements that must be observed in the specific case of sales on food websites.

The objective is, therefore, as the ASAE inspector general mentioned, to make known in a complete but simple way the specificities that must be met in terms of, for example, pricing or labeling for people with some limitations. food, among many others.

All of this, he stated, “must be identified very clearly” and the labeling must be “exactly the same as if [the product] were displayed in any retail operator”.

The Secretary of State for Tourism, Commerce and Services, Nuno Fazenda, highlighted the “good example of cooperation between ADIPA and ASAE”, noting that this collaboration meets the promotion of “a healthier economy, fair competition, security food and consumer protection”.

Carlos Moura, vice-president of ADIPA, said that this type of instrument, in addition to facilitating the observation of legal obligations by economic agents, also allows “clearly identifying” what is inspectable, avoiding different readings of rules by the various supervisory entities.
