Teatro Nacional D. Maria II begins the year by “Anticipating the Future” in Lagoa

The Teatro Nacional D. Maria II will start the year by “Anticipating the Future”, from the 11th to the 14th of January, in Lagoa, with a conference, a round table, performances and much more. 

Over the course of four days, «this edition of the cycle aims to cross and confront the crossroads of the tourism industry that boosts the Portuguese economy, with its vicissitudes, seeking to raise awareness of the importance of the role of arts and culture», says the National Theater D. Maria II.

«Through performative and visual artistic practices and contemporary thought, this program aims to critically dissect the notion of tourism, contributing to thinking about Portugal, in particular the Algarve region and, more specifically, Lagoa», he adds.

The “Anticipate the Future” program begins on the 11th, Thursday, at 18:00 pm, with an opening conference, at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium, which will set the tone for a program of activities around the theme “Critical Tourism”.

Over the next three days, from the 12th to the 14th, Friday to Sunday, an intense program follows, consisting of a round table on the future of tourism; screening of three short films, curated by Colectivo Pátio, a performance-conference by the artist Odete with scientists João Paulo André and Pedro Augusto (O Som da Ciência), the performances “The last row is future”, by the artistic duo composed by Filipa Brito and Nelson Guerreiro Space, and (IN)finite Space, by actor, tarot reader and astrology student Sérgio de Brito.

Added to this is the pre-launch of the printed publication “(Des-)Guia Turístico Lagoa: 2023-24”, followed by the launch of the album of postcards and reading of texts by Mathieu Fleury and also a “Festa (Fu-)Turista ”, promoted by the DJ duo Os Calipos, and a DJ set by Sónia Trópicos, closing the program on the 13th and 14th, respectively.

The “Antecipar o Futuro” program also includes the performances “Búzio”, by Ana Baptista, and “VIATURAS”, by Ana Mula, the two winning projects of the 2nd edition of Antecipar o Futuro, an artistic residency program developed by Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, NTT DATA and O Espaço do Tempo, with the aim of supporting the development of research projects by young artists.
