São Brás de Alportel approves Budget of 23,5 million, the largest ever

São Brasense Municipal Assembly approved the Budget for 2024

The Municipal Budget of São Brás de Alportel for 2024, a proposal presented by the executive led by the socialist Vitor Guerreiro, was approved by a majority by the Municipal Assembly on December 21, with the votes in favor of the members elected by the PS, the abstention of the member of the CDU and the votes against the PSD.

The Budget proposal had already been approved, also by majority, by the municipal executive, in an extraordinary chamber meeting held on November 30th, with the votes in favor of the members elected by the PS and the votes against by those of the PSD.

Reaching a value of close to 23,5 million euros (23.440.885 euros), this is the largest Municipal Budget ever.

According to the municipality, “it reflects the implementation of the municipal project that earned the trust of São Brasenses for the four-year period 2021-2025, with a very strong focus on housing, as a priority axis of action and new transversal goals for the future, maintaining the firm commitment to ensuring the sustainability, rigor and financial balance of the authority, always aligned with the calendar of community and national funds”.

Vítor Guerreiro, president of the Chamber of São Brás de Alportel, considers that the document reflects “a balanced and proactive approach to the growth and prosperity of our community, in which each initiative and investment confirms the commitment to building a more sustainable, prosperous municipality and inclusive.”

Housing is the main priority assumed by the Municipality, which continues to invest in the Local Housing Strategy, a global project with a planned investment of more than 10 million euros, for the expansion and rehabilitation of the Municipal Housing Park, and paves the way for solutions of housing at controlled costs.

In Social Policies, there is also an investment of around 650 thousand euros in the continuity of social support and responses, such as rental support programs, the Inclusion Promotion Project, direct help to families with the Local Help Platform Food, the “Mão Amiga” program that allows improvements to be carried out in the homes of families in vulnerable situations and support for the expansion and remodeling works of the Residential Structure Building for Elderly People.

With the transfer of powers from the Portuguese State to the Municipality, in the area of ​​Health, São Brás now has new challenges that it intends to respond to with an investment of almost one and a half million euros, which will allow it to move forward with the construction of the building to accommodate the Family Health Unit, complete the works on the Health Center and begin the improvement of the outdoor area of ​​this equipment.

In this area, the executive also intends to support the Integrated Master's Course in Medicine at the University of Algarve and continue the Plan of Measures to support the Family: Vale + Saúde and Vale + Natalidade.

In the Education sector, the Municipality, now with new powers, plans to invest approximately 2,3 million euros to ensure the functioning of teaching equipment, with all the services for excellent teaching, and invest in vital works, for the expansion of school establishments, in response to population growth.

In this area, the Municipality is committed to continuing to support the development of curricular and extracurricular activities, social support, participation in school passes, the attribution of prizes to the best students and scholarships for attending higher education and the Vale + Educação, a program that supports students in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd cycles and secondary education in purchasing school materials at the beginning of each school year. In this area, there is also the acquisition of school transport.

The Budget for 2024 also includes an investment of 1.361.500 euros in the area of ​​Spatial Planning. The 2nd phase of the Urban Center Requalification project, the construction of Praça João Rosa Beatriz, the requalification of Jardim Carrera Viegas, the extension of the Accessible Walks Network to Campina are some of the investments in this area.

The Water Supply and Sanitation area has an investment of over 2,5 million euros to continue to ensure these essential services and reinforce, expand, requalify and conserve water supply and sanitation networks as well as the implementation of water supply and sanitation solutions. contingency in the context of drought,

In the new year that begins, Environment and Animal Welfare has 1,7 million euros of investment, which will allow the Carrera Viegas Garden to be requalified, containers and other collection equipment to be purchased, as well as a vehicle to collect waste. waste, reconvert roundabouts in the municipality with a view to water efficiency, as well as waste treatment and disposal services, support animal protection, environmental and nature conservation institutions and continue sterilization and adoption campaigns for stray animals.

Energy will consume 2 million euros, with the maintenance and repair of lighting networks and the adoption of more energy efficient solutions.

In the area of ​​Transport and the Road Network, an investment of around one million euros is planned, which includes the conservation, maintenance and repaving of the road network, with a focus on the requalification of Road 523 – between EN 2070 and Vale de Carvalho (Corotelo) and the paving of Municipal Road 513, between Arimbo and Cortelha.

For the areas of Civil Protection and Forest Defense, an investment of close to 800 thousand euros was contemplated, to support Civil Protection associations, the elaboration of the Municipal Program for the Execution of Integrated Management of Rural Fires, the implementation of the program “ Condomínio de Aldeia” and carrying out forest fire prevention work and purchasing equipment for Civil Protection elements.

Culture and Heritage occupy a portion of the budget of 426 thousand euros, in order to ensure the dynamism of the cultural program, in a year marked by major events such as the 50th anniversary of the April Revolution of 1974 and the 110th anniversary of the municipality.

It also includes support for cultural associations, the modernization of the São Brás Cineteatro Jaime Pinto and support for research studies to enhance heritage and some municipal editions.

The municipality's Economic and Tourism Development are strategic areas in the construction of a prosperous municipality. For these areas of work, the Municipality has reserved around 1 million and 400 thousand euros, which aim to boost the Business Park, create the Entrepreneurship Award, reinforce the Business Incubation network and continue economic boosting initiatives and events. of the municipality such as Feira da Serra, Feira Stock Out or Noite Prata and the dynamization of the Municipal Market.

In 2024, São Brás de Alportel sees the birth of the “Aleluia” Monument, an urban art project carried out in phases, which pays homage to one of the most memorable moments in São Brás life, in a bid to create an element of tourist interest.

For Sports, recreation and leisure, around 800 thousand euros are included, to continue modernizing and expanding the Municipal Sports and Leisure Park, which, in 2024, will see the Tennis and Padel Complex expanded, and ensuring support to sports associations and collectives and hold sporting events.
