New book by Luísa Schmidt presented in Loulé by Miguel Sousa Tavares

The book “50 Years of Environmental Policies in Portugal. From the Stockholm conference to the present”, written by Luísa Schmidt, will be presented, by Miguel Sousa Tavares, on January 16th, at 21 pm, at the Salão Nobre dos Paços do Concelho de Loulé. 

In addition to an introduction that locates the roots of the environmental problem in Portugal, this book opens with a set of testimonies from personalities who, directly or indirectly, stood out in this pre-April 1974 start – a phase of modernization of the country and its issue. environmental and ecological.

A second set of texts includes reflections from protagonists who assumed important roles already in full democracy and especially after accession to the European Community in the area of ​​the environment, whether in civic movements, environmental education, science, culture, spatial planning or in the economy.

The third part of the book is dedicated to the main dimensions that constitute environmental policies in Portugal today – their evolution, fundamental milestones, current state and future challenges and includes useful timelines highlighting the key moments in the launch and implementation of these policies.

Luísa Schmidt, sociologist, is principal researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon, coordinator of Observa and member of the National Council for the Environment and Sustainable Development (CNADS).
