Group visited rehabilitation works on water supply systems

Works in São Brás de Alportel and Tavira

Representatives from AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, the Administration of the Algarve Hydrographic Region and the University of Algarve (UAlg) visited the ongoing works to rehabilitate the Algarve's water supply systems, in the municipalities of Tavira and São Brás de Alportel.

In the municipality of Tavira, the group visited the project corresponding to the “Intervention to control the reduction of water losses” – replacement of pipelines, which is taking place on the left bank of the Gilão river, in the city of Tavira.

Under the responsibility of the municipal company Tavira Verde, this project is part of an application that amounts to 1,85 million euros and aims to intervene in 8,59 km of network, with the aim of achieving water savings of 15 cubic meters (m649).

In the municipality of São Brás de Alportel, ongoing interventions to rehabilitate the water reservoirs of Arroteia and São Romão were visited, as well as the contract to renew the water network in Vilarinhos – 2nd phase, already completed, which is developed over 1,47 km and will allow water savings of 52 m560.

These works total an investment of 263 thousand euros and are part of the application “Implementation of actions and measures to reduce water losses in the São Brás de Alportel water supply system”, under the responsibility of the municipality.

The measure “SM1 – Reduce water losses in the urban sector” is managed by AMAL, under the water plan, through a financing contract worth 43,9 million euros, signed with the “Recover Portugal” Mission Structure. It aims to rehabilitate failing supply systems, with the aim of reducing real water losses.

So far, 31 applications have been approved, corresponding to an investment of 21 million euros.
