Grand Prize for Literary Chronicles and Dispersos is now open for applications

José Tolentino de Mendonça, Lídia Jorge and Miguel Esteves Cardoso have already won this award

The 9th Grand Prize for Literary Chronicles and Dispersos, a joint initiative between the Portuguese Writers Association and Loulé Chamber, has applications open until February 21st.

The prize is intended to annually reward a work in Portuguese, by a Portuguese author, published in book form and in the first edition, in the year prior to its delivery (in this case referring to 2023), in the fields of chronicle and literary dispersions brought together in volume.

Starting this Wednesday, January 24th, candidates must send five copies of the work to APE (Rua de S. Domingos à Lapa, 17 – 1200-832 Lisbon), destined for the jury members and the Sophia de Mello Municipal Library Breyner Andresen, in Loulé, and must be delivered by February 21st.

To reward the winner, a monetary value of 15 thousand euros will be awarded.

The APE management will designate the three elements that will make up the jury. The jury's final decision will be made within thirty days.

The awarding of the Grand Prize to the award-winning author will take place at a public ceremony in Loulé, as part of the celebrations of Municipality Day (9 May).

This initiative has already achieved a prominent place in Portuguese letters, especially due to the prestigious authors who have received the Prize over the years, such as José Tolentino de Mendonça, Lídia Jorge or Miguel Esteves Cardoso.
