Dolphin rescued in the Alvor estuary

Mammal was “at risk of life due to the approach of low tide”

A dolphin that was trapped in a clam farm, in the Alvor estuary, was rescued this Tuesday, January 23, by the Portimão Maritime Police and Ferragudo Lifeguards. 

According to the Maritime Authority, the alert was given at 14:12 pm, and the mammal was found inside one of the nurseries in the Alvor Ria «at risk to its life due to the approach of low tide».

The dolphin was then rescued and returned to its habitat by the Ferragudo Lifeguard crew and members of the Maritime Police, supported by a member of the “Zoomarine” technical team.

The local command of the Maritime Police of Portimão took care of the incident.
