Tax authorities warn of new fraudulent email about supposed refund

Fake messages should be ignored and deleted

The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) warned today that there are taxpayers who are receiving emails about a supposed refund, stressing that these are false and should be ignored.

“The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) is aware that some taxpayers are receiving email messages supposedly coming from AT, referring to a possible refund, in which they are asked to click on a 'link' [webpage address] ”, states the alert published on the Finance Portal.

In one of the email examples shared, the taxpayer is told that he “is eligible to receive a tax refund of 756,23 euros”, and is told to “visit” the link provided (which is fraudulent) to “submit the refund request ”.

As on previous occasions, AT warns that these are “false messages” and that they should be ignored and deleted, as their only objective is to convince the recipient to access the malicious pages by clicking on the suggested links.
